Pirate Bay to sue music industry: “The Pirate Bay is threatening to seek damages from music industry lobby group The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) for blocking access to its website. In February the IFPI went to court to get Danish ISP Tele2 to block access to the website accusing it of aiding and abetting copyright infringement.” (via The Register)
Will Smith Launches Music Video Site: “Will Smith and Overbrook Entertainment, his entertainment group, unveiled a music video site called PluggedIn on Wedneday, featuring over ten thousand videos from EMI, Sony BMG, Universal and indies.” (via Wired)
Peter Gabriel Launches The Filter: “The Filter, a new media recommendation and discovery service, announced on Tuesday the launch of an invite-only private beta, and the raising of $8.5 million in funding, from backers including musician Peter Gabriel’s Real World Group and Eden Ventures. “We believe one of the many joys of the internet would be freedom of choice, but many of us are now drowning in an ocean of options,” said Gabriel.” (via DMW)
Gatfield joins EMI: “Nick Gatfield has agreed to join EMI Music as president of A&R Labels, North America and UK. Gatfield joins EMI from Universal Music, the world’s largest music company, where he has been president of the Universal Island Records Group since 2001. As well as signing five times Grammy Award winner Amy Winehouse, who has sold close to nine million copies of her Back to Black album, Gatfield has also overseen the recording careers of Keane, Mika, The Fratellis, McFly, Busted, Sugababes, The Feeling and new artists Robyn and Sam Sparro.” (via Press Release)
