Linda Perry Sues WMG Over Royalties: “U.S. songwriter and record producer Linda Perry is suing Warner Music Group for not turning over millions of dollars in royalties from the debut album of her protege, English singer James Blunt. Perry’s California-based record company, Custard, filed suit against Warner Music Group and one of its labels, Atlantic Records, which distributed Blunt’s wildly successful album “Back to Bedlam,” claiming breach of contract. The suit, seeking lost royalties and $5 million in punitive damages, was filed Tuesday in Manhattan federal court.” (via Billboard)
iLike Announces 200,000th Artist: “Music networking application iLike announced its 200,000th participating artist on Wednesday, part of a quickly-growing profile. The artists are tapping the iLike application to spread themselves across Facebook, hi5, and Bebo.” (via DMN)
YouTube Not Paying: “Some top music managers [say] that their clients haven’t seen any money from the licensing deals the four largest music labels have signed with YouTube over the past 18 months. According to a statement from Google-owned YouTube, the Web site is banking ad dollars generated by the artist’s music and is sharing that money with the record labels. What the managers want to know is why little or nothing has trickled down to the artists.” (via Silicon Valley Insider)
Ziff Files For Bankruptcy: “Publisher and event producer Ziff Davis Media announced on Wednesday that it plans to file for Ch. 11 bankruptcy protection, and will set aside $24.5 million to fund operations during and after it emerges from the process, expected to conclude this summer. The company, which publishes PC Magazine and Electronic Gaming Monthly magazines, and websites including 1UP.com, said it has also reached an agreement with investors on a restructuring plan to reduce its funded indebtedness.” (via DMW)
