Apologize 2nd Song to Pass the 3,000,000 Mark: “The 3rd hit single from Timbaland’s platinum album, Shock Value, as well as the first single from their own album, Dreaming Out Loud, OneRepublic’s “Apologize” has become only the second song in history to score 3,000,000 digital song downloads, following “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” from Soulja Boy Tell’em earlier this year.” (via PR Newswire)
Teenagers not buying CDs: “The finding, released by NPD Group, is mostly obvious to music industry executives. But the research firm revealed that a drastic 48 percent of teenagers do not purchase CDs at all, citing survey data. That represents a sharp increase from a year-ago result of 36 percent, according to the group.” (via DMN)
Facebook Launches Music and Film Pages: “Facebook has just launched two new “Pages” for music and film designed to lure more musician and film makers and ease the way for them. The new templates include applications specifically designed for music and film like a review app, tour dates app, the ability to sell tickets and merch, a Flash player, music player and co-branded Facebook applications from sites like Fandango and iLike.” (via Hypebot)
Chinese music industry groups file suit against Baidu: “Two industry groups representing China’s local musicians and songwriters have filed a lawsuit against the country’s Web search leader, Baidu.com Inc, accusing it of copyright violation. The move signaled that domestic artists as well as international firms are disgruntled at the firm’s free music search service.” (via Yahoo)
Capitol News: “Greg Thompson, former executive VP at Island Def Jam Music Group, will join the Capitol Music Group staff on Thursday to lead the Virgin and Capitol promotion departments. The move was revealed during a conference call with Capitol Music Group chairman and CEO Jason Flom Wednesday morning. Additionally, Flom announced Virgin executive VP of promotion Hilary Shaev has resigned her position.” (via Billboard)
