Snyder/Bronfman Suit Moves Forward: “The suit filed by former Simon & Schuster chief Richard Snyder against Edgar Bronfman Jr., alleging it was he who suggested Bronfman acquire Warner Music Group, will go forward, N.Y. State Supreme Court Judge Bernard J. Fried ruled last week after dismissing four of the six counts:” (via Hits)
We7 Adds SonyBMG: “We7, a Peter Gabriel-backed online music service that launched about a year ago, will offer 500K songs from Sony/BMG for free streaming on its site. Along with indie labels and bands who have licensed their songs, this brings the total number of tracks available on the free music service to around 750K.” (via Wired)
HMV To Launch MP3 Store: “Britain’s leading music and entertainment retailer HMV will launch an MP3 digital download store later this year as part of a broader company refocus on technology, product and store designs.” (via Billboard)
Irish ISP Eircom Sued by Record Labels: “Ireland’s largest Internet service provider, Eircom, has been sued by the major record labels under the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) on charges of aiding copyright infringement, RTE Business reported. In their complaint, filed last March, the labels allege that Eircom has failed to remove copyright infringing material from its systems, and are challenging the ISP’s refusal to use copyright filtering technology or other measures to combat piracy.” (via DMW)
