Buzznet Confirms Stereogum Purchase: “Buzznet has now confirmed its acquisition of Stereogum, a top music blog. The content mesh makes sense for Buzznet, a music-focused social networking destination. “This acquisition is a perfect fit for us and a natural next step in our strategy as we expand our music coverage,” Buzznet general manager Scott Boyd explained.” (via DMN)
Baidu Challenged With $9M Copyright Lawsuit: “The Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court has agreed to hear a copyright-infringement suit against web portal Baidu. The suit was filed Feb. 4 by Universal Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment Hong Kong and Warner Music Hong Kong, the IFPI said today. Citing the Beijing-based portal’s practice of “deep-linking” to Web sites offering unauthorized music downloads, the labels are seeking damages totaling $9 million for infringing copyright on 127 music tracks, the maximum statutory compensation under Chinese law of 500,000 yuan ($71,352) per track.” (via Billboard)
