Daily News: Monday
Sony BMG signs with We7: “We are delighted to announce that Sony BMG, one of the UK’s largest and most successful record companies, has signed with We7 to provide free streaming of its music to We7 users in the UK.” (via We7)
Universal Music U.K: “Universal Music Group International chairman/CEO Lucian Grainge has named David Joseph as the new chairman/CEO of Universal Music U.K.” (via Billboard)
Pre-Loaded iPod: “What’s missing from the iPod? According to one entrepreneurial team, the answer is the music. The iPod is empty at purchase, ready to accept the customized collections of its users. But what if a portable media player came pre-loaded with thousands and thousands of songs? That is the underpinning of a pre-launch startup called PushButtonMusic, a more sophisticated iPod killer. The concept is being started by Hal Oppenheimer and Robert Uhlmann, cofounders of Broadcast Data Systems (BDS).” (via DMN)
Bob Lefsetz and Bruce Allen at the Canadian Music Week convention: “Lefsetz is unafraid to faintly sing a chorus from the stage: “’1-2-3-4’… compare that to ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ compare that to Joni Mitchell. The iPod she plays on is more credible than she is. “Do you wanna fuck Feist?” Lefsetz fires at Allen, who abides with a head-shake. “Janis Joplin was not attractive, Laura Nyro was not attractive, but there was something in there that made you think, I WANT MY SHOT!” “I think she’ll be defined by what she does next,” volleys Allen. “The Beatles started out with ‘She loves you/ Yeah, yeah, yeah.”” (via Eye Weekly)
