McBride Says 360 Deal Should Include Stock Options: “In order to align the musicians’ interests with those of their record label or management company, they should get stock options, much like the company executives get. That way, it would be a true partnership in building the artists’ brands for the long run, according to Terry McBride, CEO Nettwerk Management. It was one of the innovative ideas he brought to the table at a session on the new 360 deals at Canadian Music Week’s digital music & media summit.” (via DMW)
Clive Davis Wants Artists To Stop Writing Songs: “Davis, chairman and chief executive officer of the BMG Label Group, said he has seen many entertainers lose their careers by not concentrating on finding hit songs — no matter who they are written by. “The odds are always against you,” Davis, 75, told the Billboard Music and Money Symposium on Thursday. “You have got to go over the best material, and that should win out, not withstanding any track record. I don’t care how many No. 1’s you have written in the past, have you written a new No. 1?”" (via Yahoo)
Koch Partners With V2: “Koch Entertainment Distribution and V2 Records North America, a Sheridan Square Entertainment (SSE) company, today revealed an exclusive physical distribution deal. V2’s catalog includes PM Dawn, Moby, Carla Bruni, Underworld and the Black Crowes. Through the deal, Koch is now the exclusive physical distributor of the entire SSE roster in North America. SSE’s eight label imprints include Sheridan Square Records, V2, Triloka, Ropeadope, Spitfire, Light, Intersound, and Tone Cool.” (via Billboard)
